The company history of PREFORM GmbH

PREFORM has been the leading manufacturer for acoustic room partitioning systems in Europe. Since more than 40 years PREFORM GmbH creates innovative solutions for better acoustics and effective sound insulation in the office.  With our headquarter in Feuchtwangen, Germany,in the heart of Europe we servie our customers with individual solutions for their offices.

After industrialization, the 20th century became the stage of another turnaround in the western working world: within a short period of time, the majority of the population worked sitting at their desks. The office became the central focus work-life bringing more and more challenges with increasing size. 

The desire to create a human centric and modern workplace was the impetus for the foundation of PREFORM.  

In the early days, PREFORM produced movable walls, which were manufactured to visually and acoustically structure large office units. Our company name blends the words PREcision and FORM – these are still two of our core competences today.

  1. The 80s:

    Foundation of Precision Mfg. Inc. Germany in Hamburg by the Canadian shareholder Precision Mfg. Inc. Montreal. The partner and managing director is Rudolf Miller from Vienna.

    The relocation of the company headquarters from Hamburg to Feuchtwangen and the start of production at the Feuchtwangen site takes place. Precision Mfg becomes PREFORM Raumgliederungssysteme GmbH.  PREFORM also presents its first FORMFAC module series for office partition walls. These are connected via a simple bell touch connection and create stable yet visually attractive acoustic solutions for office environments.

    New construction of the production hall and administration building in Feuchtwangen with subsequent move-in.

    Extension of a further production hall, also in Feuchtwangen, followed shortly afterward by the extension of the exhibition building.

  5. The 90s:

    The revolution of the workplace
    Introduction of the patented filling material gypsum foam, developed in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics. Furthermore, PREFORM takes over the shares of the Canadian Precision Mfg. and Rudolf Miller becomes the sole owner of the company.

    At ORGATEC (Leading International Trade Fair for Modern Workplaces), the humanization of the workplace is being promoted under the motto "Refurbishment". PREFORM plays a leading role as an acoustic consultant in the field of innovation.

  7. The 2000s:

    Office concepts in the course of time
    Expansion of the product portfolio with the DECATO module series. This product range is characterized by the angular edges and the connection via clip elements. With the introduction of the DECATO module series, PREFORM sets a milestone in contemporary workplace design.

    Change of shareholders and name to PREFORM GmbH.

    The new module series allows more flexibility in the design of open-plan offices and complies with the vdi 2569 guideline.

    Sound masking is becoming more and more important. The establishment of a tranquil office, where you don't necessarily have to listen to your colleague's phone call, moves on the agenda. In 2009, PREFORM develops its unique PRESOUND system as an innovative solution. This system generates a unique noise carpet and a more pleasant acoustic environment.In addition, PREFORM develops its patented gypsum foam further.

    Research and development for a human-friendly workplace
    Presentation of the PREFORM volume cabin, a core innovation in room-in-room systems.

    Development of Prelight, which enables better lighting at the workplace and completes the current product selection.
    Acoustics in Motion and the extensions into central zones, creating even more freedom in room design.

Sustainable products, for the generation of tomorrow

Today we are setting the basis for the generations of tomorrow. PREFORM therefore exclusively uses ecologically harmless materials such as our patented gypsum foam and PreDinkel from our own production. We work with regional partners to reduce our CO2 emissions through short delivery routes and ensure full transparency of the production and supply chain. Quality and sustainability are our core values at PREFORM.
